Just hit delete

My email box usually hovers around the 2,000 email mark. After some extensive cleaning it currently sits at just over 1,300.

Which brings me to the question, why in the world can’t I just hit delete? I’ll get an email that I will never need to read again. A completely useless piece of digital dust cluttering up my life. And yet I don’t delete it. Why? If I would keep up with my email box it would probably be much better for me.

How many useless emails do you keep laying around?

I confess Chad, that though I made a valiant effort last week to control my inbox and I have an amazing subdivision system set up in Outlook that could save the important ones in safe places… I have 255 items in my inbox right now. Hitting delete is not easy.

At this moment I have 152 sitting in my inbox.

I’m pretty good at deleting or filing ones once I respond, but most of these 152 still need to be followed-up on in some way and I’m terrified that if I file or delete them I’ll forget all about it.

Truth be told, its just procrastination.

Have you checked out OtherInbox.com yet? I have the same problem, but I’ve been slowly migrating all non-human e-mails to my OtherInbox to reduce the noise in my main e-mail accounts. When I have time, I go and check my OtherInbox, but I don’t have to wade through them anymore to see messages from real people.

I have some beta invites left if you’d like to try it.

Well, at the moment my work email is a bit under the 300 count. Two months ago I got it to zero but my inbox spun out of control I can’t just make myself hit delete.

I have around 52 right now in my inbox. But I have many more than that stored in files and such. like @Harsha mentioned about inbox zero…I try my best to follow that principle. It helps most of the time.

I have the same problem. I’m not fond of getting rid of any email that might have the slightest possibility it could serve a purpose in the future.

    I’m feelin you!

I have 1,958 emails in my inbox. I royally stink at deleting emails. But now I’m inspired by your work – because I really hate a dirty inbox – so I might look at some organization for gmail in the near future.
