1944 Close Combat Demonstration

Today we had an amazing time with the kids at the 1944 Close Combat Demonstration put on by the volunteers at the Texas Military Forces Museum. I’ve always been interested in World War II and read everything I can on it. To see the weapons and vehicles of the war in action was incredible. They taught about each weapon and what the war was like and then did a live demonstration of capturing a German strong point.

The kids harassed me for days wanting to know why the tank wouldn’t be firing. I explained that blanks for a tank were probably pretty pricey. Imagine our surprise when the tank fired off it’s main gun twice.

They are doing two more demonstrations on Sunday at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. I’d highly recommend taking the family out to Camp Mabry. Here are a few shots I grabbed while we were there. I wish you could see them on the big screen. Being able to shoot something like this is a great, but you miss so much detail unless you see the photos in large format.
